Public disclosure of additional Defense Department classified information can only make the damage worse [. . .] We are asking them to do the right thing. We hope they will honor our demands and comply with our demands.

Public disclosure of additional Defense Department classified information can only further undermine public support for our clearly misguided effort in Afghanistan. We are asking them to forget about freedom of the press being one of the most fundamental forces against unlimited government acting immorally. We hope they, like The New York Times, agree to be our propaganda machine and allow us to become their overlords.
