More on Team BLUE Hypocrisy

The Advocacy Center for Equality and Democracy on the about face Team BLUE supporters have taken regarding their support for drone attacks and Guantanamo Bay remaining open:

However, the polling data suggests that a significant number of people who identify as belonging to a political party (a) change their values to conform to the policies of their party, and/or (b) change their values to oppose the leader of the other party. Either is totally inconsistent with a citizen’s role in a democracy.

If you have real values, and if you hope to have any real impact with your vote; if you don’t want be a mere automaton predictably picking red or blue over and over again without regard to policy, you have to think for yourself and stand up for your values.

I would add their support for Obama giving his blessing to a Super PAC to support him would also fall in to this category as well.1 But since I suspect that these Team BLUE voters don’t have any values other than following dear leader, because he represents everything that isn’t a backwoods, ignorant, religious fundamentalist redneck, calling them out is meaningless. Of course Team RED voters don’t have principles which aren’t malleable either, but it isn’t their rank hypocrisy that’s currently stinkin’ up the joint.

1. I don’t have any moral problems with Citizens United or the Super PACs the decision created. It’s a grand win for free speech and empowerment of normal people to add to the larger political narrative on a grand scale rather than having to hear only what the political establishment and the media would like. But if one did have, as Obama did, the opinion that the Super PACs would usher in the fall of democracy as we know it, the ONLY morally acceptable position one could have regarding Obama using one should be one of tacit disapproval for taking part in the downfall of democracy so openly and willingly. Otherwise your principles are not principles, but the malleable opinions of a political whore, subject to what the leader of your team deems appropriate. You’re no longer an autonomous political being, but a bitch of the political establishment.
