One Down, One to Go

Paul wins the Kentucky primary. Only one more vote to go.
Roger Alford and Bruce Shreiner via the Associated Press:
Rand Paul defeated Republican establishment favorite Trey Grayson in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate, a closely watched race that was a test of the tea party movement’s strength.
I don’t agree with every position Paul takes. In fact, there are some facets of his platform with which I vehemently disagree. Nor do I directly support the Tea Party which is largely responsible for Paul’s emergence.1 But I’ll be damned if he doesn’t represent the best hope for those of us who want government to be what it is meant to be.

1. I have sympathies with the original intent of the Tea Party, a movement of the people to demand a constitutional government that doesn’t use us as their own personal ATM, but the way that it’s been co-opted by traditional GOP causes me to balk and look at the movement from afar, and hope that its emphasis on small government is what holds sway rather than a socially conservative agenda.
