“Indiscriminate”

Kareem Fahim via The New York Times:
After five days of sporadic fighting in the capital, the Jamaican police have still not found the object of their raid, a gang leader wanted in the United States on gun and drug charges, but the death toll has risen to at least 70 and complaints are mounting that the police have used indiscriminate force.
. . .
While those numbers provoked loud debate in Jamaica, the Obama administration expressed its support for the operation, which aims to extradite Mr. Coke to face charges in New York. “As the Jamaican government seeks to uphold the rule of law, the United States stands in support of its efforts to ensure public safety and to combat drug trafficking and other criminal activity,” Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. said in Washington.
I would say that “indiscriminate” is the proper adjective to describe killing over 70 people, many of them innocent of any wrong doing, just to get one guy. Were drugs not demonized and driven underground because of our ridiculous “no tolerance” drug policy, there would be no such thing as drug violence or drug cartels, and we could have avoided tens of thousands of needless deaths at the hands of drug warriors and millions of people from having gone to jail for the victimless crime of getting high.
