Why Do Now What We Can Do Tomorrow?

The New York Times concerning Obama’s begging of plea to Hispanic voters:

In a radio interview that aired on Univision on Monday, Mr. Obama sought to assure Hispanics that he would push an immigration overhaul after the midterm elections, even though he has not been able to attract Republican support.

This should certainly be thought of as yet further evidence that politicians don’t care about issues, but about being elected/securing more power by promising to care about issues that matter to real people. “Sure, we’ll address this issue that is of great importance to a small subset of voters who haven’t yet been claimed as a permanent caucus by either party, but not until after you go out and vote for my team because I haven’t had enough support from the other team over the last two years despite the fact that I have been able to secure strict party line votes for massively unpopular bills.”

It’s funny that he could secure Obamacare and various stimulus packages without a single Republican vote, but it is Republicans who have kept held him back on immigration reform.
