Always About Racism

Even when professional leftist muckrakers have to perform mind-bending feats of mental gymnastics, it’s always about racism. When discussing Obama’s “you didn’t build that” gaffe while referring to business owners who started their own businesses:

Mitt Romney’s plan of blatantly lying about President Obama’s “you didn’t build that” speech is clearly drawing blood. But what makes the attack work so well is not so much the lie itself but the broader subtext of it.

The key thing is that Obama is angry, and he’s talking not in his normal voice but in a “black dialect.”

Yeah.

And the only reason why those on the left hated Bush the Lesser was because he spoke with an uneducated redneck accent. It had nothing to do with his craptacular policy; it was all about his accent and their elitist hatred of southerners.

And yet, after having clearly insinuated that it’s only when Obama is talking in his “angry”, non-composed voice that he sounds “black”, what Chait really means is that only when Obama is speaking in a completely composed, venerable tone that can sound white. Angry and emotional = (abnormal) black speak. Calm and intellectually composed = (normal) white speak. Got it.

And I’m the one who’s being called a fucking racist?
