Libertarianism in Politics

David Boaz via Cato@liberty: You can see in both the Paul op-ed and the Johnson interview that major-party politicians are nervous about being tagged with a label that seems to imply a rigorous and radical platform covering a wide range of issues. But if you can call yourself a conservative without necessarily endorsing everything that […]

The Thing About Cable News

Is that all of the talking heads and those they bring on their respective shows are fucking scumbags. Reason’s hit & run: It’s all theater, you see. She’s just playing a part. It’s fine if she slanders some people, ruins some reputations, spouts flat falsehoods, and generally dumbs down the public discourse. Because it’s just […]

The Thing About Cops

Is that they are fucking scumbags. With the very small exception of those cops who actively expose rampant police corruption and abuses of power, every cop is a bad cop. Even if they never once themselves engage in corrupt activities, allowing them to happen is their being complicit in them happening.

Canadian Muslim on Trial for War Crimes

I wonder how many coalition soldiers who have killed enemy medics or Afghan civilians will be facing war crimes charges, being charged with murder? WaPo: The first war crimes trial of the Obama administration, which began Thursday with brief opening arguments, will force a panel of seven military jurors, four male and three female officers, […]

No Data

Elizabeth Warren, chair of a panel designed to oversee TARP fund allocation, on how responsible the Treasury Department has been: The point we make forcefully in this report is that there were no data about where this money was going, no information about where this money was going [. . .] Why is it again […]

We Democrats…

hereby formally and with a full commitment, declare full scale class warfare on those whom we deem make more money than they deserve, and will strive to coerce it from them and give it to those who vote for us in order that we maintain our power. If we fail, we will, however, continue to […]

Dangle It, and They Will Cave

All the federal government needs to do is dangle “free” cash for long enough, and eventually, states, even those who vowed not to accept more cash, will cave in. Los Times: Mr. Sanford joined several other governors who had initially expressed hesitation about the money but later relented, including Dave Heineman of Nebraska and Sonny […]

At the Stroke of Midnight

WaPo: D.C. Council member Tommy Wells (D-Ward 6) said he thinks the answer is an earlier curfew. District residents 17 and younger have to be off the streets by midnight in the summer. Wells proposed an 11 p.m. curfew for people 15 and younger, but most of the council members opposed the move, with some […]

Used Their Budget Gimmicks

Yeah, New York City has definitely used all of their budget gimmicks which the Times has been talking about. To critics of Mr. Bloomberg’s efforts to extend term limits, including some candidates who had prepared to run for mayor, the Doe Fund officials’ appearance [on Bloomberg’s behalf] amounted to a clear conflict of interest. For […]
