Holy Wars

Tuesday 11 May 2010 - Filed under Dumbassery + Military + Religion

Lord's ArmyI used to think that the political right saw the military as a quasi-religious institution which can do no wrong, until today when I realized that the military actually is a full blown religious institution.  I was at my son’s Parents Day Out program end of the year lunch when I heard this oh-so-adorable little nursery rhyme sung by a small child . . .

I may never be in the infantry

Ride in the cavalry

Shoot the artillery

Fight with the enemy

but I’m in the Lord’s army

No wonder the political right is always so fucking eager to engage in military action.  Apparently it’s a spiritual calling above and beyond the already very annoying duty of every Christian to “spread the word,” and it’s ingrained in their heads from the time before they can even speak.  Aaahhhh . . . I love the smell of indoctrination in the morning.

I guess the moral majority cannot see the hypocrisy in pushing forth a Christian military agenda. Here we have a religious movement founded by a non-violent advocate (turn the other cheek, anyone?) being forwarded by the most violent of methods.
    Nice.

That’s not the only thing with which the moral majority exhibits hypocrisy. But it may well be the most evident.
