Nothing Better To Do

Thursday 19 August 2010 - Filed under Dumbassery + Government

Apparently, lawmakers in DC, as well as a bunch of do-gooder type researchers, have nothing better to do than critique films and their use of cigarettes.

The number of U.S. movies showing people smoking has declined since 2005, but cigarettes are featured in far too many films and could be influencing young people to take up the habit, according to a report released Thursday.

[. . .]

Reps. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) and Joe Pitts (R-Pa.), who both serve on the Energy and Commerce Committee, wrote to the Motion Picture Association of America encouraging the industry to adopt stronger anti-smoking measures.

Very few things show better the disconnect between DC and the fucking rest of us like paying attention to the really important stuff. Oh wait; since it’s For The Children™ it’s okay to ignore the massive fucking debt in lieu of noting how often people smoke in movies.
