Regulators Need a Diet

Tuesday 11 May 2010 - Filed under Dumbassery + Government + Regulation

I fuck on the first dateIt seems that the government is out to get fat kids again. First they thought that they could regulate companies to self-regulate the problem away.  Now government thinks it can, well, regulate the problem away itself.  Though I’m sure they’ll call it deregulation.  I’m not saying that child obesity isn’t a problem.  My secret decoder ring (AKA my eyes) tells me everyday that there are a whole lot more fat kids than bad genes can account for.  But I’m also sure that 1) this is not a problem that government can win, and 2) even if it could, the impetus to regulate diets should be on parents, not the government.  I mean if we believe in that silly idea of self responsibility and all.  This kind of BS regulation is a natural extension to ObamaCare where the government, at some point, may mandate certain kinds of diets or specify approved foods in order to get some of that “free” health care.  Simply put, it isn’t any of the government’s goddamned business what kids eat.  And it certainly isn’t mandated in the Constitution that Congress shall have the power to levy restrictive diets on minors in the event that it sees fit to do so.  Besides, Congress should stop worrying about what kind of cartoon figure is on a box of cereal, and take care of that pile of shit on the door step that’s stinkin’ the joint up.  But I guess so long as there something they can do For the Children™, the massive, out of control debt we have can wait.
