File: Kentucky

Despite some potential misgivings about Rand Paul as a candidate, I will be voting for him for the simple reason that every law enforcement agency in the state has sided with Conway. If cops unanimously support a particular candidate, surely said candidate is an immoral statist ready to use cops violently in order to support […]

Joey Belladonna at Freedom Hall during an epic Anthrax/Megadeth/Slayer show: This is amazing. It’s . . . This is a Tuesday night in Kentucky is what this is. Yes. Yes it was. \m/

Lost in Translation

Jim Warren of The Lexington Herald-Leader on the finding of Moonshine in rural Kentucky: Moonshine whiskey is an illegal product that Kentucky was once well known for producing. But nowadays marijuana has largely replaced moonshine as a problem for law enforcement officers. Too bad the solution to the problem has been lost in translation.

Jessamine County Sports Complex

Greg Kocher in The Lexington Herald-Leader on the Jessamine County Sports Complex: After languishing for a couple of years, the effort to build a soccer and football complex and a Kentucky Pro Football Players Hall of Fame in Nicholasville has been reinvigorated. Local officials say they have a good chance of obtaining federal funding that […]

Good Stuff

I’ve always been the envy of my gun loving friends when they discover that Buds Gun Shop, the retail location for budsgunshop.com, is a local gun shop here in town.  Now Buds is even better. I’m not in the habit of pimping other people’s stuff, but Buds is a high quality establishment with a fantabulous […]

Conflicted

Paul Prather in The Lexington Herald-Leader on “new atheism”: Atheists remain a tiny minority, but they’re far more vocal and combative than they used to be, an approach advocated by Dawkins and others. They have every right to state their views. The irony is that this current brand of aggressive atheism is just another form […]

An Important Battleground

Roger Alford of the AP via The Lexington Herald-Leader: Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul reached out to gun advocates on Saturday, trying to shore up support from a major voting bloc in Kentucky. . . . Conway, the state’s attorney general, also is vying for the NRA endorsement, said campaign spokeswoman Allison Haley. “Jack […]

Welcome to Politics Dr. Paul

David Swerdlick via The Root: He took a decidedly anti-choice position on abortion and fudged on the (after the fact) banking bailout by focusing on the (before the fact) housing bubble. He didn’t distinguish himself from the Congress from which he’s ”taking government back.” By contrast, it would’ve only taken the senior Paul two minutes […]

Better Days for Liberty

Tad DeHaven via Cato-at-Liberty: I’d prefer to believe Paul’s victory last night was a repudiation of the GOP establishment as much as it was a repudiation of Washington in general. Popular discontent with the statist Democrat establishment in Washington is well recognized. But if Kentucky Republicans just signaled their displeasure with the statist Republican establishment, […]

The Rand Paul Review

Being a Kentuckian with an interest in liberty, I find myself in the envious position of perhaps having a senatorial candidate in my state commonwealth who can legitimately be perceived as a guy who isn’t a political douchebag.  Rand Paul (R-KY) has a strong pro-liberty pedigree in that his father, the venerable Ron Paul (R-TX), […]
